Oblivious to the Identity Infrastructure

Oblivious to the Identity Infrastructure #1 and #2

I'm still working to find the best way to explain identity infrastructure and this is yet another attempt. The big paper bag represents the state and all of the overbearing ways in which it influences our identity both today and historically. In the photos the state creates a shadow over the purple person in the middle, which seemed appropriate. The yellow section represents society and all of the interactions we have with people. On the left is a section for media including a tv set in green and a red book. There are also a lot of paper clips! These represent people or groups that enter and exit our lives in ways that are might be close and intimate (like groups of family members and friends in some sections) or people who are more like strangers to us but we still know of them or engage with them in some way. The paper clips were linked together in my box and I started using the linked clips to drape around the page and objects, trying to represent the interdependence and relationality of everything while also creating a more chaotic look. What you can't see so well is the clear tape that also connects different elements together but is less visible to us.
