Writing rituals
May 14/15, 2025
What can we learn from the daily rituals of famous writers, and how can “subtle maneuvers” in our writing habits help us “wriggle through” (in the words of Franz Kafka) to a more productive writing life of our own?
Join international writing expert Helen Sword for this FREE WriteSPACE Special Event featuring Mason Currey, the author of two books on the daily rituals of famous writers and artists. Mason publishes the fabulous Substack newsletter Subtle Maneuvers and facilitates a weekday “Worm Zoom” for anyone craving a daily dose of accountability and camaraderie in support of their creative work.
In the first hour of this two-hour Special Event, Helen and Mason will discuss examples of creative rituals employed by well-known writers —perhaps including Mason himself? — and explore the difference between rituals and routines. The second hour will feature a hands-on workshop based on Mason’s “Worm School,” a collection of small but significant strategies to help you move forward with your writing even in the face of resistance.
The live event will take place on Zoom from 1-3 pm Pacific Daylight Time on Wednesday May 14. To find the time in your own time zone, check our Guest Calendar or use this handy time zone converter.
The first hour of this WriteSPACE Special Event is free to all registered attendees. The interactive workshop in the second hour is reserved for WriteSPACE members and paid subscribers to Mason’s newsletter Subtle Maneuvers or Helen’s newsletter Helen’s Word.
Register below to receive the Zoom link a few hours before the event. Can’t attend live? All registered participants will be sent a link to a video recording of the first hour, and paid subscribers will get access to the full two-hour video.
We’d love to see you there!
