I started the Metaphor exercises yesterday and the metaphors are already h a u n t i n g me.

I'm currently writing about parents' well-being. As a first exercise, I went through my data to find metaphors that parents use to describe how they feel.

Here are some examples:
tout se passe comme sur des roulettes
literally: everything goes like on wheels (everything goes like clockwork)

When she received the tax bill, a mother said:
j’me suis mise à pleurer comme une Madeleine
literally: I started crying like a muffin/like Madeleine (Madeleine is a name, but also the name of pastry similar to a muffin) (≈ cry like a fool)

The positive pregnancy test was
ça me faisait un peu une claque
a bit like a slap in the face)

The first year with the baby was
comme une machine à laver/un tourbillon/un tsunami
(like a washing machine [I really like this one!]/a whirlwind/a tsunami)

On est un peu comme le vin, on se bonifie avec les années
(we are a bit like wine, we get better with age)
