[research poem]

My chapter summary haikus of the necessity of taking in lodgers in Victorian England:

Lodger in the home,
The breadwinner’s wife's relief,
A widow's must-have.

Bad breadwinner's path,
Low-wage shoemaker's cab stop,
On the shelf's trump card.

Deserted women,
Widows chit and grey, their homes:
Bushels of lodgers.
