WRITESPACE STUDIO 3rd October 2023

Please introduce yourself by telling us where you live (country, city/state/region) and what kind of writing you do.

Amy: Hi everyone, I am Amy from New Zealand, currently in London. I am Helen’s events manager and will be hosting the session today. It’s lovely to see you all.

Phil: I’m Phil from Auckland, and I write about plant medicines (and related stuff!)

James: James, academic writer on design education in Stockport, UK

Vicky: Hello, Vicky in Essex, UK - historian working on my second monograph/trying to figure out new keyboard!

Anita: Anita, Cape Town, Academic writing on student thriving

Bring our voices into the room: What have you made recently? (for example, arts and crafts, recipes, DIY projects)

Creative warm-up:

If you have a notebook: Sketch a diagram of your writing project or process: for example as a map, maze, blueprint, geometric shapes, or something more abstract.

If you prefer to write using your keyboard: Use colour! Write about your goals for today using colourful writing—Highlight each line in a different colour.

Pre-pomodoro: What do you plan to work on?

James: I’m going to make a set of hands!

Vicky: Describing an egg box bed (craftmanship)

Gokul: I plan to do an assignment.

Anita: 10 min Journaling, 15 min reading and summarising

Ramón: Hi everyone, sorry for being late. Thank you for sharing your drawings with me, even though I didn’t have any… I still need to decide what I should work on, as I was late…

Amy: No worries Ramon, take your time. If you want to spend the first few minutes of the timer doing a diagram, you could :)

Gokul: I’m sorry, but I have to leave. Thank you, Amy and everybody else! Please excuse me.

Post-pomodoro:  How did that go for you? Tell us one thing you achieved

Vicky: Thought a lot about egg transportation 🙂

Phil: My blog, on regulating plant medicines - sorted a couple of sections at last

James: I made some arms! Just need to print them. They will be appearing on the Creativity Catalyst soon. I will have to go in a moment. Thanks Amy.

Anita: Journal led and did some summarising.

Ramón: I wrote a paragraph of an idea for a book, which is not perhaps what I was setting myself to do… Sorry, I didn’t do a proper diagram, but I attempted a very simple mind map about the ideas I wrote in my notebook.

WINDOWS session: What is one thing you discussed?

Vicky: Finding your 'tiger time'

Egg boxes as beds and museums of the Victorian era, such as Sanbourne House in London. https://www.rbkc.gov.uk/museums/sambourne-house

Phil: In NZ many years ago, people used to repurpose used 'car boxes' (within which cars were imported from Europe and the US), and use them to live in.

Vicky: I'll have to look that up!

Anita: For cost-of-living comparison over time, for Vicky: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/historical-data

Two-word poem:

Time passed: Eggs and cornflakes, diversity and thought, Sauerkraut coffins.
